This engine being self-contained, and of very simple design, requires no skilled labor in fixing. All the bearings are extra large, and the wear can be readily taken up. The fly-wheel is turned bright and rounded on the face, for use as a driving pulley. The crankshaft is grooved and turned on both ends, so that a pulley can be applied on the opposite side to fly-wheel if required, or either of them reversed, making a right or left hand engine. The feed pump is driven from the valve-rod spindle through outer end of steam chest, and can be detached at pleasure. The governor is of a special description, and combines in the small space usually occupied by the ordinary steam stop valve, a governor, stop valve, and throttle valve complete. Being driven at a high speed it is very sensitive, rendering the working of the engine uniform under varying pressures of steam or sudden differences of load. The principal dimensions of three different sizes are given below:— |
