Where it is desirable, engines of the type described in Fig. 176 can be fitted with condensers as shown at Fig. 177. Of this class a 12 horse-power engine was exhibited, the condenser being suited for a quick speed, and fitted with brass valve seatings and India rubber valves. The air pumps are connected to the tail end of the piston rods, and a distance piece is introduced between the cylinder and condenser, ensuring speedy and accurate relative adjustment of these parts in erecting the engines. The foundations required for both engine and condenser are but very slight. |
