Here's what Brian had to say about this thermometer:
I found this for sale on-line and even though it wasn't a Western NY artifact (which I collect, sometimes) I couldn't resist buying it. It's been on my wall for a little while, and it's still accurate today (yes, I keep it at 72-73°F in my home all year).
I'd guess its age at maybe 75±15 years based on the old style of telephone number. Note that this thermometer states the firm was in Brooklyn, NY.
When I bought this item I tried to find info on the company, but could not find anything significant. I looked through old Buffalo, NY directories but couldn't prove that firm was or wasn't in Buffalo at any time, or found here.
I have to ask the obvious question: why is the word Buffalo in the name? |
