Image Description:
THE FALLS PATENT UNDERCUT FACE PLANER.

When the power-feed rip saw was first put on the market, it did not take long for progressive manufacturers to recognize its superiority over the old style hand-feed rip saw. Since the advent of the power-feed rip saw, another machine has been brought out. It is the undercut face planer, and as a labor saving device, bears the same relation to the hand-buzz planer, as the power-feed rip saw hears to the band-feed saw.

The illustration conveys an excellent idea of the general construction of the Undercut Planer. It will be noticed that there are four rolls, each acting independently of the other. This means that narrow strips, no matter how badly warped may be fed under each roll at the rate of 15, 30 and 45 ft. per minute and the quality of the work will he absolutely perfect. Wide stock is worked in this machine as easily as narrow, the rolls being; so designed that they get a grip on the board sufficient to carry it forward without exerting enough pressure to spring it down, even if the stock is so crooked that the cut is not carried all the way across the board. They rise and fall with its irregularities and conform to the crooks in the stock.

The frame is heavy and cast in one solid piece, giving the machine a firm foundation. The large hand wheel adjusts the feed rolls to accommodate stock up to six inches thick on the regular machine; and up to three inches on the special short stock machine. The cylinder and spindles are a solid forging of high carbon-steel slatted on two sides. The arrangements for adjusting the tables is such that the edge is kept constantly within 3-32 of the knives, thus affording a good chip breaker. Other interesting features are the provision
made for cutting hollow and crown points as well as surfacing stock, and the fact that the operator cannot get his fingers in the knives.

The machine is a product of the Canada. Machinery Corporation, Galt, Ont.
