This roller has on upright boiler, and two vertical cylinders that actuate a beveled gear which works into a gear bolted on to the driving wheel, the tread of which is a 1-inch plate of wrought iron; the driving roller bearing two-thirds of the weight of the machine. Both 10 and 15-ton rollers are built; for the 10 ton, of 2,000 pounds each, the driving roller is 6 feet and the steering roller 5 feet long, giving a weight on the driving roller per inch run of 185 pounds. |
