Image Description:
The Bullard Machine Co. make light and heavy lathes, with and without turrets, and extension, or movable gap lathes. Several of the ordinary lathes of this firm are fitted with friction-clutch arrangement to the back-gear. Most of them have cabinet legs. The carriages are gibbed at front and back. Feeds are driven through gearing, and lead-screws are splined. The turret lathes are stiff. The turrets are hexagonal in most sizes, with holes passing clear through to permit the passage of bars. One of these is shown in Fig. 39. This is the "combination" lathe of this firm. It is of 11-in. centres, with 8 ft. 6 in. bed. The gears through which the feed-rod is driven are clearly seen at "the front, and the lever by which they are operated on the left of the feed-rod. This is a hollow spindle lathe with a 2 5/8-in. hole through. The back-gears are thrown in and out by a friction-clutch and lever seen in front. The hexagonal turret is 12 inches in diameter, with six 2½-in. holes. Bars can pass through it, and box tools can be bolted to its faces.
