Image Description:
TWENTY-ONE-INCH PILLIAR SHAPER

We present herewith an engraving of a twenty-one-inch shaper, which, though similar in design to others of the same line, manufactured by the same concern, is somewhat different in having the ram slides extended out beyond the face of the column, for better support, and in having a squared shaft connected by bevel gears with the screw, by which the position of the ram is adjusted. This squared shaft, as shown, is near the head, convenient for the operator, and the same crank handle fits this, the feed-screw and the shaft for moving the platen vertically. Both feed-screws are provided with micrometer graduations, which are convenient in rack cutting and other operations.

The high-speed pinion is made of the new process rawhide, making the machine run almost noiselessly.

The other features of the machine have been previously explained, and it is only necessary to say that it is intended to be capable of doing heavy work within its capacity, and is extra heavy. It is built by the Lodge & Davis Machine Tool Co., Cincinnati, Ohio.
