Image Description:
IMPROVED LIGHT DRILL PRESS.
The accompanying illustration shows a light sensitive drill press intended to be set on a bench and to do light work, such as is done on jewelry, electrical machinery, and other light manufacturing. The general features of the machine will be readily understood from the engraving, and it is onlynecessary to say that the pulley which drives the spindle has its bearings on the outside of phosphorbronze sleeves, which are pressed into the frame of the machine, and which also form the bearings for the spindle. This arrangement preserves the alignment of the spindle, makes it extremely sensitive, and entirely relieves it of belt strain.
The spindle is made of steel, 5/8-inch diameter, and has a vertical movement of 2½ inches with an adjustable stop to gauge the depth of holes. Connection between spindle and lever is made by a ball-and-socket joint, so arranged that all wear or lost motion can be taken up. The counter weight is movable on the lever to compensate for tools of different weights.
The table is 7 inches diameter; greatest distance from table to chuck, 7 inches. The machine will drill holes from o to 5-16 in the center of a 10-inch circle. The engraving shows spindle fitted to an "Almond" chuck, but can be fitted to any other. Driving pulleys are four inches diameter for a one-inch belt. The machine is built by Milliken & D'Amour, 151-153 Cedar Street, N.Y.
