Fig. 6 shows a measuring-machine made by the Gilkerson Machine Works, of Homer, N. Y. The screw has 10 threads to the in., and the wheel is graduated to read to 1/10000 in. by decimals, and also 1/32, 1/64, etc. The error of the screw is corrected by means of an adjustable piece fastened to the bed of the machine. The arm shown travels with the wheel, the lower end bearing against the correcting piece being held in contact by gravity. The upper end, projecting forward, has a face on which may be graduated a vernier. |
