Image Description:
"A bench lathe recently brought out by the Western Electric Company, of Chicago, shows a valuable and interesting application of small motors to the everyday requirements of a machine shop. The lathe is 10 l/2 inches swing and driven by a 220 volt, 1/6-H. P., fully enclosed, shunt-wound motor, having a normal speed of 1800 revolutions per minute, which may be increased 50 per cent, by field control. This lathe is suitable for a great variety of special operations or miscellaneous work. It rests on a swivel base, so that it may be turned around on the bench through an arc of 360 degrees. This adds materially to its general utility. See Fig. 23."
