The above cut gives a good representation of the Exeter steam-engine, which is built in capacities from 6 horse-power to 75 horse-power, and with double cylinders up to 160 horse-power. The cylinder is connected with the main bearing by a rigid casting, and so shaped as to combine the slides in one piece. The cast-iron bed upon which the engine rests adds solidity to the engine and requires less labor and expense in setting. The best of material is used in the construction of this engine The main shaft is of forged wrought iron, the piston-rod, valve rod, and crank-pin of steel. No pains have been spared to make it a first-class, economical, and durable slide-valve engine. The speed is regulated by a governor with stop-motion attachment, Ho if the governor-belt breaks the engine will stop. The noted points of this engine are first-class workmanship and material, simplicity of construction, uniformity of speed under varying loads, economy in the use of fuel, and durability. The Exeter Machine Works are the sole manufacturers of this engine. Their works are at Exeter, N. H. Salesroom, 19 Federal Street, Boston, Mass. Further particulars as to these engines will be furnished on application an above. |
