This engine, shown by engraving on page XL, throughout is of the Corliss type, excepting the steam cylinder, which is fitted with a plain slide-valve. It is in very extensive use for driving saw-mills, and other purposes where a very strong and simple engine is desired and the highest economy in fuel is not necessarily a factor. The engraving explains this engine without further reference. We simply present it as one of the best examples of slide-valve engines.
