Image Description:
There is no marked departure from existing design, and follows in a general way the lines of the well-known Stiles press, but in addition is said to embody several improvements demanded by the latest practice.
The makers lay special claim to excellent workmanship and the selection of the most suitable material f o r the construction of the press, a special mixture of iron being used in their castings. Long guides are provided to resist side thrust. A new clutch, by the inventor of the original Stiles clutch, but superior to it, is used on these presses. This allows the press to be run equally well in either direction It has three points of contact in the wheel, making it practically instantaneous, and allows the operator to make a whole revolution or any part of one he desires, lessening the liability to accident to both operator and tools. It can also be used to back out a punch which is stuck in the die. Fly presses are manufactured in six sizes, from 500 to 7 500 pounds in weight, and five sizes of geared presses are made, weighing from 1 200 to 8 000 pounds. The Stiles & Fladd Press Co., Watertown, N. Y., are the makers.
