A PORTABLE KEY-SEATER. One of the jobs that makes a machinist hate himself when out on repair work is chipping a keyway in a shaft, especially if the keyway must be a long one. It is a tedious job at best and takes lots of time, which is sometimes very valuable when there is a breakdown and the whole plant is idle in consequence The little machine shown herewith will be appreciated by those who have had this kind of work to do, and we agree with the makers that "no millright or machinist doing erecting or repair work can afford to be without it, especially at the price is quite low. It weighs but 45 pounds, and will mill any width of key-seat from ¼ to 1 ½ inches, and any depth to 5/8 inch, and the operator is said to be able to cut easily a keyway 12 inches long, 5/8 inch wide and 5/16 inch deep in one hour; other sizes in proportion. Each machine is furnished with six milling cutters, so that by placing one or more on the spindle, any keyway between the sizes mentioned can be cut. Hand or automatic feed is provided and a dial indicates the depth of cut in the shaft It is one of the handiest tools in this line we have seen, and should find favor among machinists generally. Lake Bros. 1645 North Tenth Street, Philadelphia, Pa., are the manufacturers. |
