Image Description:
BORING AND TURNING MILL.
This is one of the standard machines made by the Niles Tool Works, of Hamilton, Ohio, and like most of their tools is of very solid construction. It swings 121 ½ inches in diameter, and when the cross-head is raised will take a piece 54 inches high under the tool-holders. The boring bars have a traverse of 32 inches, and are both counterbalanced. The cone has seven steps for 4-inch belt, and is back-geared. The feeds are operated by a friction disc and range from 1/32 to 9/16 of an inch. The tables have an annular bearing under outer edge, and when heavy work is being done, the step is relieved and table rests lightly on this outer bearing. The style of mill shown is made in different sizes up to 16 feet.
