Another design of key-seating machine, by Messrs. C. Redman & Sons, of Halifax, is illustrated in fig. 307, from which it will be seen that the work is laid horizontally on the table and the cutting tool is pulled vertically downwards, thus holding the piece down on the table during the cutting operation and necessitating the use of only light and handy clamps. The cutting tool is backed solidly throughout its length by a central slotted support, and it cannot therefore spring away from the work. It is automatically relieved on the idle return stroke, and provision is made for cutting either straight or taper key seats. |
