The "Genuine Detroit" Oil Feed Divider has been developed to accomplish the automatic lubrication of a complete locomotive chassis from a central point. It is used in conjunction with "Genuine Detroit” Locomotive Mechanical Lubricators so that each feed can be success fully divided to lubricate either two or four points as required, regardless of the variation in pressure that exists at the points lubricated.
For example, one feed from the Mechanical Lubricator, when fitted with a four-way Oil Feed Divider, will lubricate the shoes and wedges of both pedestals of a pair of driving wheels. In this manner such points as guides, engine truck hubs, shoes and wedges, driving wheel hubs and many others that heretofore have depended on oiling by hand can now be lubricated automatically.
Design and Operation
The "Genuine Detroit” Oil Feed Divider is simple in design, has few moving parts, and is automatic in operation. The mounting is accomplished with but one bolt, preventing any distortion of the body and making application in close quarters a simple and easy matter.
The Divider is applied to the Mechanical Lubricator oil line and derives its operation from this source. As the pistons arc equal in diameter and travel, and as each piston must complete its cycle and discharge oil before it is possible for the next movement to take place, the division in the oil from the lubricator must be equal, regardless of any variation in pressure at the points lubricated. |
