Image Description:
Front and back views of a large screwing and cutting machine, capable of dealing, in the largest size, with tubes of from 6 in. to 12 in. diameter, are given in figs. 127 and 128. The head is driven, through triple reduction gearing, from a four-step cone of large diameter, the speeds provided being suitable for the various diameters of work within the range of the machine. On each end of the hollow spindle there is mounted a three-jaw concentric-gripping chuck, which together securely hold long tubes in a central position for screwing On the saddle, which is traversed by the star handwheel and rack-and- pinion gear, there is mounted a duplex tool, consisting of a self-centring cutting-off attachment operated by the lower handwheel, and a multiple die-screwing head, the arrangement of which is clearly indicated in fig. 128. The dies are adjustable and can be released during the running of the machine either by hand or automatically.
