Two views of a bolt-screwing and nut-tapping machine, manufactured by Messrs. Joshua Heap & Co., Limited, of Ashton-under-Lyne, are given in figs. 125 and 126, the former being a view from the operating side. The head of the machine is driven through worm gearing, either by hand or by means of the power-driven three-step cone shown in fig. 126; and on the hollow spindle is mounted an adjustable screwing head, the chasers of which can be set to any desired diameter by rotating the engraved ring until the desired indication comes opposite the index mark. A stop prevents the dies from closing further than the set position; but they may be opened at once while the machine is running by means of the long hand lever at the side of the head, and when desired an automatic release gear can be provided. The saddle is traversed by a rack-and-pinion hand-wheel gear, and on the saddle is mounted a strong hand-controlled self-centring vise. |
