MACHINE TOOL UNIT
Usable as auxiliary to wide variety of standard ma- chine tools, this Versa-Mil unit provides for precision milling, drilling, boring and grinding operations. It also serves as portable machine tool that can be taken to large, heavy or stationary work. Unit consists of power driven head and’ feed table or auxiliary base which incorporates longitudinal and crossfeeds with micrometer lead screws. Means for rigid mounting on machinery or work surfaces are provided.
Mounted on compound carriage of lathe, unit will perform such diverse operations as milling keyways, faces, splines, gears and threads; drilling; reaming; boring; routing; grinding external and internal cylindrical, taper and flat surfaces; and tool grinding. With other machine tools such as planers, boring mills, horizontal mills and turret lathes, unit permits single machine to perform series of operations including milling, boring and grinding without additional set-up time.
Power is supplied by ½ or ¾-horsepower motor, and spindle speeds range from 33 to 295 revolutions per minute for various jobs. Interchangeable milling and drilling heads offer speeds up to 5175 revolutions per minute and 360 degrees of angular settings. Grinder heads with speeds of 4140 to 13,800 revolutions per minute adapt basic unit for cylindrical, surface and internal grinding. Other features include precision bearings, hardened and ground steel wearing parts and oil seals for protection of moving parts from abrasives and coolants.
