Machinist Edward Joseph Jackoboice (1864-1935), apprentice and eventual owner of the West Side Iron Works of Grand Rapids, Michigan (1880-1921). With his father Joseph he manufactured machinery for sawmills and furniture factories (best known for steam engines, big bandsaws and many fire escapes). Edward Joseph built the fourth automobile in Grand Rapids, and a boat called The Comet (both steam-powered). Edward Joseph eventually transitioned to the manufacture of road grader blades with early hydraulics, which led to establishment of the Monarch Road Machinery Co., later renamed Monarch Hydraulics, Inc. (owned by the Jackoboice family from 1931 to 2007). |
