The growth of the business of the Clipper Belt Lacer Co., Grand Rapids, Mich, has been little short of phenomenal and any statement of what the future plans of this company involve must necessarily incorporate a view of its past field.
The Clipper belt lacer, as it was first brought out, was indeed crude compared to the finished product of today. The vision which saw the possibilities behind that small, yet practical belt-lacing tool, is today able to see greater possibilities for the future in the perfected lacing methods now employed.
Clipper belt lacing machines are today in use in upwards of 100,000 industrial plants throughout the world. They are found in the smallest shops, where one tool serves the purpose adequately, and in the largest industrial establishments, where sometimes 100 lacers are in use, conveniently located in different sections of the plant.
If one could conceive the enormous saving in time in the quick repair of belts which the Clipper has effected in industrial America alone, the figures in dollars and cents would aggregate a staggering total.
In the latter part of 1918 the Clipper Belt Lacer Co. inaugurated a new plan of advertising. The idea was conceived of making the name -Clipper synonymous with belt lacing in the mind of everyone who might suffer loss and inconvenience through belt breakage. This advertising campaign has been a vigorous one. and has attracted no little attention because of the striking character of the illustrations and copy. It has run throughout 1919 and will be continued through 1920. The campaign is accomplishing the purpose the Clipper company had in mind and has begun to produce fruitful results.
The plant of the Clipper Belt Lacer Co. is a model of efficiency. Every time and labor-saving device yet devised and found adaptable to its purpose has been installed. Automatic machinery of original design is used for making Clipper hooks and carding them for convenient handling.
The fact that Clipper belt lacing may be applied so easily and so much more quickly than by old methods is one of the principal reasons for the success and popularity of the Clipper belt lacer.
The foreign business of this company has shown a remarkable increase during the last few years in spite of the war. Connections have been established in practically every manufacturing center on the globe. During 1920 it is planned to increase the distribution of Clipper belt-lacing machines and hooks so widely that they may be purchased wherever the need arises and where there is a mill supply or hardware house in existence. |
