Image Description:
HEAVY COMBINED BENDING, STRAIGHTENING AND PUNCHING PRESS.
THE Hilles & Jones Co., Wilmington, Del., are the builders of the press illustrated herewith. The capacity of this machine is such that it will punch 2-inch holes through 1 1/4 inch steel, to cut off 2 1/4 inch square bars cold and on the other end will bend 15-inch I beams or channels.

The adjustment of the sliding head on the bending end is obtained by means of a revolving screw and large nut controlled by the hand wheel, clearly shown. This gives an adjustment of about 4 inches to the head, which is considerably more than can be obtained by the ordinary wedge arrangement. On the other end either punching or shearing tools may be applied, the cut showing shear blades for flat and square bars. On this end is a pair of rollers to facilitate running the bars through. The clutch for starting and stopping the head is controlled by a foot lever and automatic stop so that the head stops automatically after each stroke.

A large variety of work can be done upon a press of this kind and the same design is made in other sizes. The weight of this particular No. 4 machine of the capacity specified with tight and loose pulleys for belt driving, is 32,000 pounds.
