Wood Seat Adzer.
The Rollstone Machine Company, of Fitchburg Mass., are introducing an improved form of their wood seat adzer, an illustration of which is presented in Fig. 18 of the engravings. The device is largely used in the manufacture of wood seat chairs and in similar work. It is adapted for hollowing out all forms of wood seats, and, it is said, does its work in a thorough and rapid manner. The legs of the machine are of iron and the body of hard wood. The carriage is operated on a round bar, so that there is little friction. The work is placed on the carriage and held down to the cutter head by means of a clamp. The form of the hollow is regulated by the patterns and guide, and also by changing the form of the knives. We are informed that the pulley is 5 inches in diameter, and that it makes 4000 revolutions per minute. The weight of the machine is 400 pounds.
