Image Description:
The illustration herewith is of an improved gas and gasoline engine of recent design, patented by Clinton Guyer, of Muncy. Pa. The maker has adopted the four cycle system, which has proved economical in operation for gasoline engines, but at the same time he has avoided the complication of mechanism heretofore thought necessary for the operation of this class of engines. The tank containing the gasoline is placed outside the building and the gasoline is used from the tank in small quantities as required for actual work. The engine is arranged to use the electric igniter, the latter being constructed on an improved principal. All details are arranged with a view to safety. A sensitive governor is employed which maintains close regulation. The engine has 1arge valve openings, ample bearings, straight line connections and embodies improvements suggested by years of use of gas and gasoline engines of various kinds. It is made in three forms—horizontal, vertical and a pattern for carriages or road wagons. It is also adapted to launches and pleasure boats. The engine has been well tested in the study and experiment of four years. It is now running the Guyer works at Muncy, and the expense of power is stated to be ¾ cent per hour per horse power.
