Double Spindle Boring & Mortising Machine
The second engraving upon this page represents an improved double spindle boring and mortising machine. It is designed to perform with accuracy, and in one operation, that class of work in which two holes are to be bored at a given distance apart and at a given angle, as, for instance, in frame chairs, and in cabinet work, or where strong doweling is to be done. The body is cast in one piece, like the other machine; there are two spindles mounted on an adjustable head, which enables them to be set at any angle from the horizontal to the vertical, or where one hole would be over the other; besides which, the distance between them can be varied from one inch to five inches. This operation may be readily understood by the engraving. The table has a vertical adjustment, and slides forward and backward. When the machine is to be used for mortising as well as boring, it is furnished with a cross slide, in addition to the above. The spindles and their pinions are of steel, and run from 1,500 to 1,800 revolutions. The bearings of both of these machines are well fitted and well proportioned. The different necessary changes may be quickly made, and the adjustment of the spindles is greatly facilitated by the addition of a graduated scale. These machines are furnished with or without the mortising attachment.
These machines are built by P. Pryibil, 401 to 467 West Fortieth St., N. Y. |
