This maker of patented spoke and handle lathes was in business between 1865 and 1867, and possibly for longer. The namesake is Eli K. Wisell. His earliest patents were granted in 1850; at that time he may have been a wheelwright, and manufacture of his machines began later. His last patent was granted in 1872.

    SPOKE AND HANDLE MACHINERY. THOSE DESIRING to purchase the best machine in the United States for making Spokes, Yankee Ax Handles, Plow Handles, and irregular forms generally, should send for cut and description to E. K. WISELL, Manufacturer and Patentee, at Warren, Ohio.
  • 1867 issues of Scientific American carried the following ad.
    SPOKE AND HANDLE MACHINE,—
    For turning Spokes, Yankee Ax, Plow, Pick, Adze, and Hammer Handles, Whiffletrees, and Irregular forms generally. Capacity 180 Spokes and 200 Hammer Handles per hour. For cut and description, address the Subscriber, Manufacturer and Patentee, at Warren, Trumbull county, Ohio. For Indiana address P. M. Benham, Fort Wayne.
