George Andrews Smith, inventor, was owner of a box mill in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. A 1904 notice of incorporation stated, "Smith Automatic Box Machinery Co. has incorporated at Richmond, Va., with $15,000 capital, to make machinery for sawing and assorting box-stuffs. [Edward] Whitlock is president; [Thomas] J. Walker, vice-president, and A. P. Spotts, secretary-treasurer." Their address was 2330 E. Main St.
