The Burgess Cutter block Knife Grinder was developed to sharpen jointer and planer knives, specifically useful for knives found on the skewed-knife cutter heads on UK planers/thicknessers similar to Wadkin, Sagar, Robinson, Stenner,Cookley . Donald E. Burgess was awarded US Patent 2,749,677 on June 12, 1956 but filed in 1952 after the UK Patent date of November 22 1951. these are far more common in the UK but have show up in the USA with machine dealers names like "James F Murphy Inc Machinery Cambridge Mass". The machine was also sold and packaged as the "The Wuidart Sharpening Machine" In the UK and this was a sticker tag often missing just above the "British Made" motor tag.
