Patent Number Date Title Name City Description
3,933,189 Jan. 20, 1976 Noise reducing planer cutter head Charles L. Boles McMinnville, TN An undated (but circa 1978) Powermatic catalog says this in their description of the Model 180 18-inch planer: "In order to comply with user and Federal Government demands for Planer noise reduction, Powermatic Engineering has done it again! Determined to avoid the complications of sharpening and replacing knives in spiral time cutterheads, this fantastic NEW single surface planer still utilizes the straight knife slot, maintaining simple knife installational and sharpening through use of the regular grinding and jointing attachment. Major noise reduction has resulted from this new stagger mount (patents) blade arrangement, and the addition of curtains of acoustical material at entrance and exit areas serve to contain sounds generated within the machine, again reducing the noise level pressure."

Greathouse McMinnville, TN "A spindle shaper machine tool successively performs a plurality of operations on a work piece with removal and replacement of cutter heads on the spindle. The cutter heads are superimposed on the spindle, a fluid pressure jack quickly shifts the spindle to align a selected head with a work piece and the work piece is either manually or automatically advanced across the rotating selected tool..."
This production shaper was sold under the "Powerstack" name by Powermatic, as a nicely integrated option on their model 26 shaper.
