Device in machine for cutting round tenons
|
George Bailey |
Lockport, NY |
This machine was intended for making bedstead-rails, but it was also used for making garden implements such as hoes and rakes. An 1855 ad from Spalding's Machine Shop lists this machine: "Baily's Bed Rail Machine, for turning and tenoning square timber—eight hundred pieces in ten hours turned ready for the screw." An 1874 ad from T. R. Bailey & Vail shows a lathe with this patented feature. |

Mortising-machine
|
Thomas R. Bailey |
Lockport, NY |
"My invention consists in the employment or use of a rotating and vibrating mandrel to which the cutter is attached, said mandrel being arranged and operating in a peculiar manner..." Inventor operated under his own name, and subsequently as T. R. Bailey & Vail. This mortiser was seen in an 1858 catalog from J. A. Fay & Co., but it is likely that the machine was actually made by Bailey himself. |

Improvement in Key-Seat Cutting-Machines
|
Thomas R. Bailey |
Lockport, Niagara County, NY |
Munn & Co., patent attorneys
My invention relates to improvements in that class of machines for cutting key-seats in the center holes of pulleys and gear-wheels, in which a vertical saw is used for working through the eye of the wheel while lying on the table; and the first part consists in connecting the saw to cross-head by an oscillating block journaled thereto. Second, it consists, also, in attaching saw to block by screws passing through trunnions of block into sockets of saw.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The connection of the saw to the crosshead by the oscillating block journaled thereto, substantially as specified.2. The attachment of the saw to block by the screws, screwing through the trunnions of said block and into sockets in the saw, substantially as specified. |
