This firm, also known as Millbury-Harris, manufactured single-end tenoners that used to be a common sight at sash and door plants, especially in the Eastern U. S.

We have seen a sash mortising machine (a specialized machine for cutting pockets in sash to hold a particular style of counterweight pulley) from this maker, bearing 1882 and 1884 patent dates. It is likely that this firm dates back to that era.

This company apparently was owned at one time by U. S. Cutting Chain Manufacturing Co. It appears that they ceased manufacturing in the early to mid 1970s.

Additional Millbury information is available in the Wiki, including an article on sharpening Millbury tenoner cutters.

Information Sources

  • Ad in 1955-56 Hitchcock's Wood-Workers' Digest Directory showing the "Harris" single-end tenoner.
  • We have seen several machines advertised for sale as, simply, "Harris". Machines have angle-iron frames and plywood or particle-board tops.
