Cutter-head
|
Abraham B. Landis |
Waynesboro, PA |
Cutterhead for the bolt threading machine of patent 409,208. This cutterhead patent contains the key innovation that made Landis bolt threading machine so successful. Rather than using the usual radially oriented cutters, Landis arranged the cutters (chasers) tangentially, which was claimed to produce a superior cutting action with less friction and less power consumed. |

Threading Machine
|
Samuel W. Mathias |
Waynesboro, Franklin County, PA |
Claim:
In a threading machine, the combination with means for, supporting the work, of a plurality, of thread forming cutters, a support for said cutters movable longitudinally of the work and in which the cutters are movable transversely of the work, a cam ring mounted on the cutter support and operative by rotation to convergently and divergently move the cutters in the transverse direction, a rack slidably mounted in the cutter support, adjustable linkage operatively connecting the rack with the cam ring, and a relatively fixed bar having slidable connection with said rack and adjustable to positions angularly disposed to the path of said cutter support whereby the rack in its movement with the cutter support is longitudinally displaced to actuate the cam ring. |

Thread-Cutting Mechanism
|
Charles A. Reimschissel |
Waynesboro, Franklin County, PA |
Claim:
Heretofore, such threading has most often been done as a separate operation on a special machine tool, such as is disclosed in Patent 2,017,764, issued 15 October, 1935, to S.W. Mathias. For tubing and other related cylindrical stock, such a machine is most efficient and economical however, it does not adapt itself to work, which requires successive metal forming operations, such as are normally performed on a turret lathe. Since it usually is disadvantageous to transfer the work to a special machine merely to thread it, the operators sometimes resort to a single point threading tool mounted in one of the stations of the turret lathe. However, the required repeated passages of such a tool over the work to generate the desired thread depth is extremely wasteful of the time of an expensive machine. To correct that condition, and to provide further advantageous features, my present die head has been designed to incorporate all the advantages of the one disclosed in the aforementioned Mathias patent and yet is compact enough to be mounted on a turret lathe for the production of threads of the types inherent to oil well supplies.
