Improved centrifugal governor
|
Thomas R. Pickering |
New York, NY |
Earlier governors used balls being rotated by the engine; gravity pulled the balls down and great rotational speed lifted the balls up. Pickering was dissatisfied with the accuracy of this mechanism and his innovation was to replace the action of gravity with that of leaf springs that pull the balls inward. The Pickering governor was a rousing success. |

This improved Pickering governor patent has been seen on a governor made by the assignee. The design improves the means of adjusting the valve rods so the adjustment knob does not become too hot to touch. |
