  Sterling Elliott, Newton, Mass.—Drill Presses. Cutting-Off Tools, Tap and Drill Gauges, Pamphlet-Stitching Machines, Bicycles, Lace Cutters, and other specialties.

  The catalogue which Mr. Elliott has just put out is an exceedingly clever production. The catalogue proper is all that could be desired. The supplementary matter comprises a series of illustrations exhibiting the growth of the establishment from very moderate beginnings in 1623, and some characteristic interiors showing the methods of the establishment, which have the merit of being preeminently original. The view in the foundry during the progress of a ''heat"; that in the smith-room showing the admirable opportunities that are offered the apprentices to become familiar with the work; that in the "assembling" department; and especially that In the testing department, are masterpieces.

  A highly ingenious, and, so far as we are acquainted with the state of the art, entirely original device, is the combination of spring-board and hopper, which is most effectively utilized in the gathering and loading of the leaves of the flux plant (Diulf gniredlos), from which Mr. Elliott prepares his non-corrosive soldering fluid.

  We congratulate Mr. Elliott on having issued the most artistic, original and entertaining catalogue of the season. It is unique.

  If you are surprised to read that soldering flux comes from a plant, you might want to carefully examine the Latin name for the plant.

  Sterling Elliott—Sterling Elliott, known to practically every man who graduated from the bicycle business into the automobile industry, died at his home in Newton, Mass, last week at the age of 69. Elliott is credited with the invention of the standard form of automobile steering knuckle, which bears his name, and for a time was a manufacturer of turntables and wheeled trucks, in Newton he is best known, however, for his cycling activities, which kept him long in the forefront of events of his day.
