Founded in 1894 by August Mietz & Carl W. Weiss. Shortly after the company was formed, they changed their name to August Mietz. The firm lasted until 1917 when Mietz died and Weiss left to found his own company, the Carl W. Weiss Engineering Co. A portion of the manufacturing rights to their engines was acquired by the Charter Gas Engine Co.
