In the early part of the 20th century, this firm made an arbor press.
Information Sources
- We learned of this maker in an Ontario Hot Rodders forum post. An arbor press is shown, clearly labeled, "No. 3 / Arbor Press / Jos. P. Cleal / Toronto / Canada". A maple leaf is beside the model number.
- The March 1921 issue of "Machinery" has an ad for punch-press dies. The Canadian reprepresentative was "Joseph P. Cleal, 802 Lumsden Bldg, Toronto."
- According to a church genealogy page, Joseph Pacy Cleal was born in Illinois on April 1, 1860. He was an engineer.
- Cleal had at least a half-dozen patents that were assigned to the National Cash Register Co., and at least a couple more besides. None are related to arbor presses or other machines within the scope of the site.
