The company was founded about 1897 by Charles Jacobson who was previously associated with the Climax Gas Engine Co. of Brooklyn, NY. They manufactured gas engines ca. 1897-1915, and machinists' vises until selling that product line to Rock Island Manufacturing Co. in 1907. Their vises included the John R. Long patent Universal Friction Swivel Vise and Friction Swivel Bottom Vise. The firm changed their name in March 1918 to Warren Machine Products Co. Their other products included clutch pulleys and air compressors.
