In the 1880s R. H. Allen Co. manufactured mower grinders that had been patented by Rufus Dutton, who seems to have been a partner in the business. In 1888 the rights to the grinder was taken over by their agents for New England, Higganum Manufacturing Corp. of Higganum, CT, which continued their manufacture under the Higganum name. In 1892 the Higganum company reorganized as the Cutaway Harrow Co. after their most popular product, though they continued bo make Dutton's patent grinders.
