Chicago Flexible Shaft Co. originally was known as a manufacturer of sheep-shearing and horse-trimming machines in the late 1800s. It was also the predecessor of the company that became the Sunbeam brand, which originated as a second line of products from Chicago Flexible Shaft Co. in the pre-World War I era. The company used Stewart as a brand name.
