Around the middle of the 20th century this firm made "Harvey Butterfly" die filers and grinding machines. They were a subsidiary of Germanow-Simon Machine Co., Inc., of Rochester, NY.

  • We learned of this maker from a discussion in an owwm.org forum.
  • A discussion on Practical Machinist included a link to instructions and parts list for a die filer from this maker. This document provided the company name and its address: "161 Grand Street, New York 13, N. Y." The factory was located at 45-34 Court Square, Long Island City, N. Y. The instructions also note, "Named 'Butterfly' because it as as noiseless in its running as a butterfly is in its flying." The company was a subsidiary of "Germanow-Simon Machine Co., Inc. / Main offices / 408 St. Paul St. / Rochester, N.Y. 14605".
