Between at least 1900 to 1936 (and likely for longer than that), Alfred Herbert Ltd. of Coventry made metalworking machinery, particularly turret lathes.

A 1912 report from the US Consulate in Melbourne reports on the shops of engineering firm Geo. W. Kelly & Lewis of that city. The shop's machinery includes a recently-purchased "hollow hexagon turret lathe from Albert Herbert... Besides the turret lathe, Herbert has supplied one sensitive drill...".
