The firm of S. Cheney & Son, Manlius, N. Y., was reportedly in business since 1866. They survived until at least 1930.
In the late 1920s, Cheney's line of popular tool grinders included these model numbers in ads: 3, 4, 4-B, 6, and 7, some available in several sizes. The company used Royal and Cheney as brand names.

S. Cheney & Son, Manlius, N. Y., recently incorporated, state that they have simply taken over the plant and business of the firm of S. Cheney & Son, which has been in business since 1866. The output will be gray iron castings. No additional buildings or equipment will be required at this time.
