Key to Links for Patent Information

USPTO = U.S. Patent Office . Images of the actual patent can be viewed on the U.S. Patent Office web site but a special TIFF viewer must be installed with your browser in order properly work. More information on how to configure your computer to view these patents can be found at TIFF image Viewers for Patent Images.
DATAMP = Directory of American Tool And Machinery Patents . A sister site to VintageMachinery.org with information on patents related to machinery and tools. A much easier user interface than the USPTO's for finding information on machinery patents.

After incorporation and organization the first step of the parties interested will be, so we are informed, the erection of a plant with a capacity of 25 tons of steel per day, to demonstrate the feasibility and merits of the process. Mr. Brazelle, after whom the process takes its name, lives at 2201 Eugenia Street, this city, and is the inventor of the Brazelle engine governor and an open-hearth process for making muck bar and steel, using oil and gas as fuel. Patents for the latter invention are still pending."

This patent was subject to litigation between the Leschen & Sons Rope Co., and the inventor. Leschen had had a contract with Brazelle where Leschen would pay for Brazelle to develop an engine based on an idea that Brazelle had already developed. Brazelle developed the engine and applied for what became this patent and 1,022,178.
1,022,178 Apr. 02, 1912 Internal-combustion motor Benjamin Brazelle Kirkwood, MO This patent is similar in intent to patent 1,022,177, which was an earlier patent application.

238,531 Mar. 11, 1924 Method of supersaturating liquids Benjamin Brazelle Los Angeles, CA A 1926 article on reform in regulating proprietary medicines in "Reports of the Council on Pharmacy and Chemistry of the American Medical Association" says, "Aquazone is stated by the Aquazone Laboratories, Inc., Los Angeles, Calif., to be a supersaturated solution of oxygen in water carrying approximately five and one-half times as much dissolved oxygen as ordinary water..." Aquazone was supposed to kill bacteria and "toxins". In short, this patent covers a method of producing a quack remedy. See also US patent 1,469,581. Of peripheral interest because the inventor had earlier patented steam engines, steam engine governors, and internal combustion engines.
