Originally named simply Appomattox Iron Works, a circa 1910 broadside advertised the Appomattox variable feed saw mill, capable of sawing 20,000 feet per day using a 35 HP engine. It was established before 1854, when an advertisement said it was operated by Williamson, Watkins & Co. The company incorporated Aug. 15, 1916.
