In about 1900, William Dohn manufactured a 24" bandsaw.
Information Sources
- We learned of this maker from a Photo Index submission. The bandsaw's label reads, "William Dohn / Mfg / Indianapolis Ind / 734 E Maryland St".
- R. L. Polk & Co.'s Indianapolis City Directory for 1885 lists Wm. Dohn as a sawyer.
- R. L. Polk & Co.'s Indianapolis City Directory for 1899 lists "Dohn, Wm., Genl Machinery and Repairing, n w corner Davidson and Meek." A small text ad essentially repeats this information.
- The Annual Report of the Indiana. Dept. of Inspection for 1906 lists Wm. Dohn as a machine shop with 2 men working and no women or children. They had operated for 200 days in 1905 and were un-unionized. The entry is pretty much the same for 1911 except that they worked 300 days in 1910.
- R. L. Polk & Co.'s Indianapolis City Directory for 1901 has a text ad:
WM. DOHN

All kinds of machinery repaired.
Shop, 710½ Meek Street.
The identical ad appeared in the 1902 issue as well.
- An issue of Iron Age of unknown date has this snippet:
William Dohn, Indianpolis, will build a one-story machine shop at 1322 Charles Street and will soon arrange for equipment installation.
- The 1923-09-28 Indianapolis Star reports that William Dohn's shop was in receivership.
