USPTO = U.S. Patent Office . Images of the actual patent can be viewed on the U.S. Patent Office web site but a special TIFF viewer must be installed with your browser in order properly work. More information on how to configure your computer to view these patents can be found at TIFF image Viewers for Patent Images.
DATAMP = Directory of American Tool And Machinery Patents . A sister site to VintageMachinery.org with information on patents related to machinery and tools. A much easier user interface than the USPTO's for finding information on machinery patents.

Patent Number Date Title Name City Description
1,252,634 Jan. 08, 1918 Gage Glen J. Walker Detroit, Wayne County, MI Abstract:
During the manufacture of engine cylinders particularly in large quantities, as in modern gas engines and automobile plants and like bodies, it is necessary in order to maintain uniformity and accessory of product, to test the bores thereof from time to time. This invention relates to a gage for testing the bores of cylinders or the like and to an arrangement thereof whereby the tool is readily manipulated and whereby any variations in diameter from end to end of the cylinder or like irregularities are quickly and easily noted.
Claim:
An instrument for testing cylindrical bores comprising a cylinder shell provided with a detachable and interchangeable guide plate of fixed external curvature, guide shoes yieldingly projected from the shell opposite to the attached guide plate and a gage mounted in the shell and "provided with a testing finger extending through an opening thereof opposite to the bearing plate.
1,605,040 Nov. 02, 1926 Piston Oscar C. Kreis Detroit, Wayne County, MI Abstract:
My invention relates to an improved construction of piston for internal combustion motors, constructed to remove excess oil from the cylinder wall and prevent oil pumping without the accompaniment of undesirable noises heretofore experienced with certain types of structure intended for the purposes of preventing oil pumping.
Claim:
A piston for internal combustion motors having a head and a cylindrical wall having ring grooves containing piston rings characterized by providing the cylindrical wall with a first set of oil drainage holes from the bottom of the lowermost ring groove to' the outer surface of said wall below said ring groove, and a second set of oil drainage holes through said wall from the outer surface thereof to the interior of the piston.
1,724,599 Aug. 13, 1929 Internal-Combustion Engine Lewis P. Kalb Detroit, Wayne County, MI Abstract:
This invention relates to internal combustion engines and refers more particularly to means for cleaning air supplied to the engine cylinders. A further object of the invention is to provide means for ventilating the crank case and to relieve back pressure in the crank case. The invention also provides a simply constructed device capable of manufacture in quantity production at .o relatively low cost for efficiently carrying out the above objects.
Claim:
An internal combustion engine comprising in combination an engine combustible mixture supplying device, a crankcase, a valve chamber communicating with said crankcase, said valve chamber having an opening extending longitudinally of the side of the engine, a cover assembly including an outer member provided with louvers opening rearwardly of the engine and an inner member substantially closing said valve chamber opening, said inner and outer memo hers forming a cover chamber, means forming a restricted communication between the cover chamber and crankcase for ventilating the latter, and means for supplying air from said cover chamber to the said mixture supplying device.
1,817,390 Aug. 04, 1931 Internal Combustion Engine Andre J. Meyer Detroit, Wayne County, MI Abstract:
his invention relates to internal combustion engines and refers more particularly to the valve-in-head type. One object of this invention resides in an engine of the afore said type which will afford increased efficiency, increased power, and generally improved engine performance. I have provided a novel cylinder head construction for valve-in-head engines which will provide turbulence for the fuel mixture during the compression of the combustible charge. In engines of the aforesaid type it is customary to locate the valve combustion chamber over the cylinder, this general arrangement not affording the desirable turbulence for the fuel mixture.
Claim:
A cylinder head for an engine cylinder and associated piston having a combustion 86 chamber above the cylinder and having intake and exhaust valves substantially aligned longitudinally of the engine and carried by the cylinder head in the top of the combustion chamber and opening inwardly of the combustion chamber toward the piston face; said cylinder head having an inwardly extending part closely overlying a portion of the piston when in the outer limit of travel for producing turbulence of the fuel mixture, a said cylinder head part being recessed, and a sparking device within said recess.
