In 1900, Crompton & Co., Ltd., of Chelmsford in County Essex, was manufacturing motors in their Arc Works. In 1927, they merged with fellow motor maker F. & A. Parkinson Ltd. to create Crompton Parkinson Ltd. In 1970 the business was bought out by Hawker Siddeley and the Crompton name disappeared from the UK, although it lived on in some overseas subsidiaries such as in Australia.
