- A 1912 report from the US Consulate in Melbourne reports on the shops of engineering firm Geo. W. Kelly & Lewis of that city. The shop's machinery includes "two 24-inch gap lathe from Dean, Smith & Grace, of Keighley, England. One of the latter swings 48 inches in the gap, and this machine is used for boring and facing the cylinders of the small gasoline engine the firm manufactures."
