This manufacturer of barrel-making machinery was in business from at least 1874-1879, and probably much longer. By 1925 this firm had been succeeded by Rochester Barrel Machine Works. That latter name had already been in use for the factory itself.

  • Ad in 1868 Scientific American.
  • Listing in the 1874 work, Wiley's American iron trade manual of the leading iron industries of the United States, as a maker of barrel machinery with 30 employees.
  • Ad in 1875 and articles in 1875-1879 issues of Manufacturer & Builder. The 1875 ad reads, "JOHN GREENWOOD, Rochester Barrel Machine Works."
  • Used machine in 1917 catalog: upright bolter with 60" sawblade, weight 3,550 lbs.
  • Listed in Kenneth Cope's American Cooperage Machinery and Tools. Under the entry for C. S. & S. Burt, Cope mentions that that company produced some Evarts patent machines that had been previously made by John Greenwood & Co.
